At my age and physical deficiencies the light weight saved me. I had a stoneware set that I donated. Makes a big difference for me.Loved the colors and design. Nice and light.Really love the pattern and weight for outdoor entertaining.Not really worth buying. I was attracted by design. But the plates are as fragile as regular plates. It’s quite disappointing. I was planning to bring it camping with my friends. When I packed the stuff to my van, the plates were accidentally dropped from a meter high and broken apart. Maybe I had such a high expectation of its toughness due to the high prices.These are beautiful plates! They are lightweight and they are made of melamine, which means they will be difficult to break. That's great if you have kids! I don't but have plenty of nieces and nephews who can be careless. Heck! Even I have carelessly dropped the plates on a couple occasions in the six months or so I've own them and true to their word they do not break! The are dishwasher safe and very durable, too. They been hand washed and dishwasher washed numerous times and they still look new! I wish I could get matching coffee/tea cups for them. They are kind of expensive, but you get what you pay for. When you factor in the high quality(hard to break), beautiful design, large size and how light weight they are it's a no brainer! That is why I wanted them for patio eating. They look like China you have to tspbon them to see they are not. I wonder though at the price. Usually Melamine set is around $30 to $35 .
