This is a marvelous, if heart-breaking, story. The reader follows a promising young Manhattan attorney as her life unravels following the loss of her husband in the nine-eleven tragedy. Hounded by unremitting grief and debilitating guilt Erin loses everything, and almost everyone she held dear in her descent into hopelessness and addiction.Though the subject might be described as “unvarnished”-the author is unflinching in her description of unspeakable events and sadness-the same dare not be said of the writing. The prose is exquisite and beautiful in every respect. Indeed, at many points the reader can not help but smile at her breath-taking skill in describing even the most horrific of events.A powerful tale of love, guilt, grief, and, ultimately, redemption, this story will linger with the reader long after turning the final page. A bravura performance by a young writer doubtless to be heard from again.
